Developing and supporting communities

The Development and Support Contract supported by the Big Lottery Fund provides a unique opportunity to organisations funded under the Reaching Communities NI programme to avail of training and support to enable them to be more effective in delivering their outcomes.

NICVA is delighted to work with the 45 organisations in receipt of this funding and since September 2007 there have been almost 500 participants who have availed of the training courses or one to one support on offer.

Some of the participants of the programme at a recent evaluation and networking meeting, attended by representatives from NICVA, The Big Lottery and ECOTEC.

The uniqueness of this programme and indeed success to date is due to the bespoke nature of the support on offer; the programmes are designed to match the skills needs identified by each of the organisations, as well as NICVA addressing some of the broader skills demands which are continuous.

This includes support for strategic planning, financial management, human resources, conflict resolution and many more.

In a time of economic challenge and in the context of the funding environment which many of us find ourselves, Big Lottery Fund also supported the costs of developing and delivering the "Winning Contracts" training. This three day programme gives participants the opportunity to learn how to be more effective in competing with other organisations to secure contracts.

NICVA will continue during the life time of their contract with the Big Lottery to identify needs such as this as they arise.

And more importantly all the support is free of charge to the organisations eligible. For further information please contact Sandra Bailie at sandra.bailie@nicva.org or on 028 9087 7777.
