Potential bursaries on offer from INCORE to support up to 10 candidates from Northern Ireland to pacticipate in the 2007 International Summer School.

The INCORE Summer School provides a structured learning opportunity to analyse the dynamic and constantly changing field of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The Summer School is an intensive week of discussion, reflection, learning and networking, facilitated by leading academics and practitioners. The courses reflect the state of the art in conflict resolution thinking and practice, bringing people involved in conflict management together to enhance their practice and to avail of cutting-edge learning.

The School provides a unique forum for policy makers, practitioners, researchers, members of the media and military to meet, creating a multi-disciplinary dialogue. Previous participants have included USAID, European Union DG External Relations, UK Department for International Development, World Food Programme, UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and others.

The School offers a unique opportunity to create links between theory, practice and policy. Special attention is given to how the experience and research of both practitioners and academics can impact upon policy makers within the field of conflict resolution.

INCORE invites participants to reflect on their varied experiences, to contribute to collective knowledge of those attending, whilst also increasing their individual learning through the skills and insights of the facilitators.

This year three courses are offered:

The 2007 Summer School will run from Monday 11 June to Friday 15 June 2007. Accommodation will be at Duncreggan Student Village beside the Magee campus.

More information on the 2007 School, a full programme for the week, can be found here.

There is a possibility that INCORE may be awarded funding to support up to 10 bursaries for Northern Ireland candidates to the 2007 International Summer School. This is subject to confirmation but given the timetable we would like to invite interested candidates to apply now. We will then notify successful applicants as soon as we receive notification from the funder.

To date over 40 international applicants from over 20 countries, from a diverse range of organisations have confirmed their attendance. We would very much encourage potential Northern Ireland participants to apply as our international participants benefit enormously from your expertise. Evaluations from previous Summer Schools have highlighted the value of this international networking.

Selection will be based on the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Education to degree level.
    And/or
  • Significant work experience in Peace and Conflict Related areas.

Desirable:

  • Education at undergraduate/post graduate level in Peace and conflict related studies.

We will prioritise applications from applicants who have not attended previous INCORE Summer Schools but those who have already attended are also welcome to apply.

Deadline for completed applications is Friday 18 May 2007.
