Aims and Objectives
Background
The Big Yellow Bus is an exciting BBC project which was launched in October 2003. It travels the country providing easy access to a range of new digital technologies to over 16 year olds.
On board there are five computers, a digital camera, flatbed scanner, plasma screen, digital radio, Freeview television and a state-of-the art radio broadcast studio. A dedicated team of BBC staff work alongside Northern Ireland adult education providers to encourage adults who wouldn’t normally have access to this technology to ‘have a go’. We can also advice visitors on the bus on where they can get information on local IT courses in their area, whatever their interest and whatever their level.
Free IT taster sessions allow visitors to gain some hands-on experience in surfing the net, sending emails, digital photography, word processing and website development. There is also the opportunity to see behind the scenes in the BBC radio studio on board.
