about extern

Extern is a charity that employs in excess of 150 people in Northern Ireland engaged in work with socially excluded adults and young people, some of who have been subject to the rigours of the criminal justice system. As such we value the expertise and support Skills for Justice offer in scoping the sector to identify not only the continuing learning and development needs of this staff group but developing resources to address them.

skills for justice in northern ireland

Although Skills for Justice is UK based it takes account of the diversity and complexity of the voluntary sector in Northern Ireland and our increasing involvement in the delivery of high level acute service delivery. Extern has been fortunate to be involved in both the Skills for Justice Northern Ireland Country Group and on a recent steering group established to examine the sectors understanding of diversity and its promotion and management within statutory and voluntary organisations in Northern Ireland.

The analysis of this information will contribute to the development of resources for organisations to use and the identification of local training agencies who can support development in this field

Anyone who works in the voluntary sector will understand the importance of finding opportunities to influence strategy and improve learning relevant to their area of work. Our association with Skills for Justice has enabled us to do that. We look forward to continuing to work with them and would encourage other voluntary sector organisations working in the field of community justice to find out more about how they can access support and engage in debate with other like mined professionals.
